When I was about to install nodejs I successfully ran these two commands:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nodejs However, when I ran sudo-apt-get install npm it gave me this list of errors:

this is not a proper way to install Node.js anyway, instead NVM (Node version manager) should be used. See here:

sudo apt-get install python-software-properties python g++ make sudo add-apt-repository ppa:chris-lea/node.js sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nodejs npm install to check version,
npm -v output will be like this

sudo apt-get install nodejs After running command
sudo apt-get install aptitude then
sudo aptitude install npm solved my problem
Having run into my fair share of nodejs install issues and then trying to manage versions / npm etc., I came across this repo which has worked wonders for me.
